Who We Are and What We Do

For over 30 years the African Women's Health Group charity has helped women get the support they need for health, training, wellbeing, homework support and activities for their children.

We run activities throughout term-time at the Subud Centre and outings during the summer months. We especially work to help women who have been displaced, such as refugees, asylum-seekers and women of Black and Minority heritage. These women typically have limited resources, minimal digital and language skills which often create a barrier to getting help.

What We Fight For

Making the World a Better Place

We're an organisation that provides advocacy support to local women, with a focus on health and education. We're based in the Darnall area of Sheffield, United Kingdom and have been operating since 1991 supporting women from all backgrounds as well as children in our local community, particularly where matters of health, wellbeing and education are concerned.

The African Womens Health Group is a registered charity that identifies and develops facilities and addresses African and Asian women's and refugee / asylum seekers' health-related issues, education and training needs. The group seeks to ensure that health services are accessible to the needs of African and Asian women and refugee / asylum seekers.

Services

We're a key provider of ESOL courses, working in partnership with the Sheffield College. We provide counselling, health awareness workshops and social drop-in sessions.

Additionally, we run English courses throughout the week, as well as interpretation and advice services, training in IT and general support for women from the Subud Centre located on Swarcliffe Road, Darnall.

On Sunday mornings, we run a Homework Club for children aged between 12 - 18 providing additional learning support for the core subjects English, Maths and Science.

Vision

Women

We look to empower the women within our community to be proficient in the English language, and obtain the skills required to become strong independent and skilful individuals.

Youth

We look to support our local youth by providing them with additional learning support, with the aim to get as many children through GSCE's and A-Levels as possible.
